This session will bring together representatives from the City of Orlando and neighboring University of Central Florida to discuss their coordination and advancements in electrifying fleet vehicles to help achieve their climate goals. The session will feature Mr. Chris Castro (Director of the City of Orlando's Office of Sustainability & Resilience) and Dr. Jim Fenton (Director of the University of Central Florida’s Florida Solar Energy Center) and include information on how other universities can become involved in the EV Purchasing Collaborative (a partnership between Climate Mayors, the Electrification Coalition, and Second Nature), electrify their fleets, and access resources through the Collaborative.

Some key takeaways from this session include:

  • There is so much room for growth in terms of vehicle efficiency as transportation currently wastes 79% of its energy
  • A lot of change will be occurring over the coming years as we not only transition our vehicles to run on electricity but integrating these electricity assets to our cities and systems at-large
