Cary Gaunt
Keene State College Director of Campus Sustainability
Dr. Cary Gaunt currently serves as the Director of Campus Sustainability at Keene State College (KSC), where she facilitates an accomplished team of colleagues and a cross-campus stakeholder group (the Sustainability Council) to lead, develop and implement initiatives that reinforce a culture of sustainability at Keene State College. Cary is responsible for leading KSC’s efforts to achieve ambitious sustainability goals, including 100% renewable electricity by 2030, and an AASHE STARS Gold rating by the end of 2020 and Platinum by 2025.
Prior to Keene State College, Cary led sustainability and watershed management initiatives as a consultant to governmental and non-governmental organizations through her work with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). She built an award-winning team that worked around the country supporting some of the nation’s premier watersheds (e.g., Chesapeake Bay, Columbia River, Lake Tahoe, and Cook Inlet, Alaska). Cary also taught sustainability leadership, policy, and practice at Marlboro College Graduate School's Green MBA Program and provided consulting services to the Boston Green Ribbon Commission and Second Nature. She supports community sustainability initiatives and is Vice-Chair of the City of Keene Energy and Climate Committee.
Dr. Gaunt received her B.A. in Art History with Environmental Studies Concentration, from Williams College in Massachusetts, her Master's in Geography from University of Maryland, and Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England. She also completed a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in contemplative approaches to sustainability at Naropa University.
